Forgiveness is a non-negotiable command for every believer. The New Testament mentions “unforgiving” only twice (Romans 1:31; 2 Timothy 3:3), and both times it describes the unrighteous—not those redeemed by Christ. Unforgiveness reflects traits like being untrustworthy and a breaker of peace, which oppose the nature of a regenerated believer. Holding grudges insults God’s grace and fights against the new life in Christ. Followers of Jesus are called to love and forgive as He forgave us (Ephesians 4:32; Colossians 3:13).
