THE TEMPERAMENT OF THE TEMPERATE

DR. FREDERICK K. PRICE

Dr. Frederick K. Price, using Galatians 5:16-24, encourages Believers to practice temperance, or self-control, over their unsaved flesh. To receive the Kingdom of God’s benefits, Believers must avoid the works of the flesh. They have the power to exercise self-restraint and live disciplined lives according to their new nature in Christ, received at the new birth.

  • Self-Honesty: Believers must acknowledge any sinful behavior that could easily ensnare them (Hebrews 12:1).
  • Self-Discipline: Believers should set personal rules to avoid giving place to the enemy.
  • Gluttony: Overeating is likened to alcohol addiction (Proverbs 23:19-21), both examples of the flesh being out of control.
  • Role Models: Seasoned believers have a responsibility to be examples to younger believers, encouraging them to exercise self-control in all things (Titus 2:1-10). Perseverance results from temperance, self-control, and consistency (II Peter 1:1).
